Save the Ponies – eurosport’s new front mount intercooler for VW 1.8t cars kills heat and saves power

Anaheim CA: Long time Volkswagen tuner eurosport Accessories has just released a new front mount intercooler for the MK4 1.8t. While the factory side mount unit is at best adequate for 180hp, eurosport’s unit will work on a Golf, Jetta or GTI with a big turbo set-up putting out around 300hp. That means K04 and even GT28 applications should be OK. The intercooler itself is all aluminum bar and plate core with cast end tanks. The included tubing is 2-inch diameter and coated with a black wrinkle coating.
Our favorite part is that this kit can be installed with nothing visible on the outside. The tubing doesn’t stick out of the grill like an emo lip piercing and even the tubing under the hood looks relatively stock. All the performance without attracting the wrong kind of attention, nice. Speaking of performance, since that’s why we do mods like this, on a stock turbo car with the basic bolt-ons dyno tests have shown 10-12whp and roughly the same torque gains.
The kit includes all the hardware, brackets and accessories you will need for install. It’s available for pre-order on eurosports website right now and should start shipping early April. Price is currently $549.
Tech Note: Intercoolers aren’t just about keeping your intake charge dense, but the cooler air also reduces detonation and allows for more aggressive timing. It is quite likely that you will see more power due to the increase in timing than the denser air itself, even if your tuning won’t take full advantage of it, your car will be a lot safer. Detonation kills engines fast.
