VF Engineering – Keep that old R8 a little longer

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

578 320x240 audi r8 vf supercharged VF Engineering Keep that old R8 a little longer I know a lot of you R8 owners out there are losing sleep wondering if you will need to trade in that old V8 when the V10s start hitting dealerships. The thought of sitting at a stoplight and someone pulling up with a faster Audi just eats away at your very being. Well fear not fans of the one up-manship game, VF-Engineering has just the thing for you. It is not a prosthetic two-cylinder bolt on addition, it’s better.

VF-Engineering has been mastering the art of force feeding German power plants for 15 years. Originating in the UK, VF’s R&D facility in located in sunny Southern California, apparently wet English roads could no longer handle all the power they were creating. They made their name creating supercharger kits for the e46 M3 and MK4 R32. They later moved into turbo kits for the VW and Audi 2.0t and both MK4 and MK5 R32s. Lately they have been moving up to even larger engines focusing on supercharger kits for the new e90 M3 V8 as well as the V8s in both the S4 and RS4.

Autotech 1.8t Intake Camshaft – Power Bump Stick

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

481 320x240 autotech 18t cam Autotech 1.8t Intake Camshaft Power Bump Stick Volkswagen’s 1.8-liter turbo represented a huge step for tuners and enthusiasts alike. The G60 before it had given enthusiasts a taste of the potential of forced induction. The US market only saw it in the Corrado, while the rest of the world could enjoy Golfs and even Passats powered by the little blown four. Sadly the G-Ladder supercharger proved to be unreliable and VW had moved to the larger VR6 at its performance alternative for the MK3.

With the release of the MK4, car companies started to see the fuel economy writing on the wall. Small displacement forced induction engines would have to replace the bigger displacement, thirstier engines. Not only did the 1.8t deliver better economy, but enthusiasts found levels of tuning that just weren’t possible in naturally aspirated engines.

Frankfurt auto show 2009: the light of the charge brigade

379 320x240 frankfurt 1 auto show 2009 Frankfurt auto show 2009: the light of the charge brigade Please make it stop. Ever since the Mercedes-Benz CLS, car makers have taken to chopping the rooflines of their sedans and calling them four-door coupes. Guys, they’re not coupes. By definition, coupes have two doors. What you’re making are sedans with varying degrees of rear head- and legroom that range from barely adequate to what’s-the-point.

387 320x240 frankfurt 2 audi s5 sportback Frankfurt auto show 2009: the light of the charge brigade At least it looks as if Americans won’t be sent into fits of pedantry by the Audi A5 Sportback, because as handsome as this four-door-plus-hatch version of Ingolstadt’s lovely A5 is, Audi of America isn’t too fired up about bringing it Stateside.

2010 Audi A3 TDI Pricing – Prius MPGs in a real car

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

MM080117 It is still beyond me why anyone in their right mind would drive a hybrid. VW and Audi have been showing the world that diesel technology is far superior in not only driving enjoyment, but even in mileage. When you factor in all the environmental badness that goes into building battery packs and electric motors, the only reason you associate a Prius with green is from envy.

Audi has just announced pricing for their second North American entry into the diesel market. The A3 has always been one of our favorite cars, we love hatchbacks. The car is based on the same platform as VW’s brilliant GTI, but improved even further.

2010 Audi S4 – Family Value

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

2010-audi-s4-driving The Audi S4 has always been one of the hottest sedans in the world. Most people don’t remember the first North American S4 introduced back in 1992, but it was a turbo five-cylinder monster based on the C4 chassis. The latest version of the S4, the B8, is set to hit dealerships any day now and Audi has just released final pricing. Most media outlets were predicting a price just under that of the $55,000 BMW M3. However, Audi has surprised the masses and brought it in at a base price of only $45,900.

The well-equipped S4 is now competing head to head with the BMW 335. A comparably equipped 335ix is now within a grand of the Audi and that’s without leather. Having driven both the B8 and e90 platform extensively, I would take the Audi any day of the week. There are still a large number of buyers that will buy the BMW for the propeller on the hood. There are probably an equal number of buyers who will wax poetically about the thrills of a rear wheel drive platform and just being either too fast or furious of drivers to live with all wheel drive. Our experience has shown that most of these blowhards have never been on a racetrack and wouldn’t know a power slide from slip and slide anyway.

It’s GR8 – SoCal to NorCal in Audi’s R8 sports car

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

221 320x240 audi r8 2 lot Its GR8 SoCal to NorCal in Audis R8 sports car As much as I enjoy driving exotics, most of them I wouldn’t dream of taking on a road trip, especially not with my wife. Although excellent choices for track days or canyon runs, they tend to be too uncompromising for long stretches. The Audi R8, however, is a new kind of exotic.

Audi has never been known as a sports car builder. Even the amazing Sport Quattros of the ’80s couldn’t be considered true sports cars. This is the company’s first real step into this esoteric arena. The R8 is a mid-engine, all-wheel-drive, aluminum wonder. Although (loosely) based on Lamborghini tech, it’s a whole new beast for Audi.

Haut Hatch – Abt AS3, A New Take On The Audi A3

Posted by MFebbo · Leave a Comment

abt_audi_as3_front.jpg German super tuner Abt has a history of making remarkable tuning products for some of Ingolstadt’s finest. The AS3, based on the current generation Audi A3 is no exception. The most obvious mods are aesthetic. A full aerodynamics kit consists of a front lip, side skirts, rear valence and fender vents. The look is subtle, yet adds a level of aggressiveness that enthusiasts want. Well the spoilers, skirts and valence lend a look of aggressiveness, the fender vents are a little much for our tastes.

The rear valence is designed to work with Abt’s now signature four tip exhaust. The exhaust works in conjunction with other engine modifications to yield 240hp. Abt doe snot specify what exactly the modifications entail. If we had to guess, we would say software and a cat-back. The cat-back is a good guess since the emissions ratings are exactly the same as stock.

Liquid Crack T Shirts – Car Guy Couture

Posted by MFebbo · 1 Comment

LC_audi_S4.jpg You generally don’t associate car guys with high fashion, at least not wearable fashion. California based clothing manufacturer Liquidcrack would like to change that. The founders of Liquicrack got tired of seeing cool car designs put onto to low grade t-shirts that were completely unbefitting someone driving a high-end car. Truth be told, hardcore car enthusiasts probably never knew the difference but they will now.

Liquidcrack offers two different cuts for men with several different designs. A fitted cut offers a more athletic fit that looks just slightly dressier, for a t-shirt, and a loose fit for those of us who want to show off our car pride, but not necessarily our physique. For now, most of the shirts have a European theme with Audis, BMWs and Volkswagens done in a simple and tasteful line art. A shirt with a turbo on each hip will appeal to the B5 S4 or 911tt owners out there, while a simple 104 octane label will appeal to car enthusiasts in general.
